Important to me.

Family. Mary and I have been married for over 40 years. Our daughters grew up working with us at meal programs, making food for our homeless shelters, all the while in the midst of our businesses. Otherwise they were raised largely as free range. And we're all still great friends. To make life even better, we welcomed Dr. Warren Chang as Eileen's husband and our wonderful new family member. Granddaughter Liberty Anne Chang joined our parade in 2018.

Recognition

I am proud to have been recognized as an AARP Purpose Prize Fellow in 2015. The tag line for the award is, ‘Making a Difference is Ageless’.

Supporting global entrepreneurs. As of May 2022 I've made 312 micro-loans to entrepreneurs in 85 different countries and territories. Over 80% of the entrepreneurs I have mad loans to are women and over 90% of my loans are made in support of women working as food and agricultural entrepreneurs. My last few dozen have been to Pittsburgh, PA entrepreneurs (my new home town). I have been able to do this (thank you!) through Kiva
